The NPH Open Home Series

A live video series by Megan Letke

The NPH Open Home Series was inspired by the open house theme; a popular event in the United States that is a friendly, casual time when people are invited to come into your home. Home evokes the image of Family – a core principle for the organization of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH, Spanish for “Our Little Brothers and Sisters).

NPH is a giant, international family that is supporting more than 3,600 boys and girls in Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. An additional 3,900 community children receive scholarships, meals, health care and other support. More than 81,000 services were provided through community outreach programs in 2020. WOW!

So, while the theme open house may be U.S. centric, the idea of opening one’s home to friends and family is global.

This is the notion that stuck with me as I created the series at a time (March-December 2020) when the global pandemic was at it’s height and the supporters of NPH who planned to visit the children at NPH homes, were disconnected.

The Open Home Series was an invitation for supporters, old and new, to come into the organization’s world through Zoom’s platform to hear from personnel inside the NPH homes, take virtual tours of the properties, and check-in on children and staff they were worried about during the pandemic. Each episode includes a featured guest from a specific country in which NPH operates, bonus videos, and questions from the audience.

My Favorite Episode.

A turning point for the Series, Episode 3 brought supporters on a journey through the story of Hermano Mayor "older brother" of NPH El Salvador, Samuel "Sammy" Jiménez Coreas. To give Sammy a platform to share his successes through being raised by NPH was a tremendous honor. Sammy, like many others from NPH, use their voice to amplify the difficulties in their childhood that they were able to over come because of the opportunities, love, and empowerment of the NPH programs.
